These are the most common Evidence Custodian interview questions and how to answer them:
I have several years of experience working with electronic evidence in a variety of settings. I have experience collecting, preserving, and analyzing electronic evidence in support of investigations and legal proceedings. I am also familiar with best practices for maintaining the integrity and security of electronic evidence.
I ensure the chain of custody of evidence by following established protocols and procedures for the collection, handling, and storage of evidence. This includes properly documenting the receipt, transfer, and release of evidence, as well as maintaining a secure chain of custody log. I also follow best practices for maintaining the integrity of evidence, such as ensuring that evidence is not tampered with or contaminated.
I handle sensitive or confidential evidence in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. This includes properly classifying and marking the evidence as sensitive or confidential, and implementing appropriate security controls to protect the confidentiality and integrity of the evidence. Additionally, I only share the evidence with authorized personnel who have a need to know and are authorized to access the evidence.
I take several steps to ensure the authenticity of electronic evidence, including verifying the integrity of the evidence, such as by using hash functions and digital signatures, as well as ensuring that the evidence has not been tampered with or altered. I also maintain detailed documentation of the methods used to collect and preserve the evidence, and ensure that the evidence is stored in a secure and tamper-evident manner.
One example of a difficult situation I had to handle with evidence was when I was working on a case where the chain of custody of the evidence was unclear. I had to investigate the issue and determine the authenticity and integrity of the evidence. I did this by reviewing the documentation and interviewing the individuals involved in the case. I was able to establish the chain of custody and confirm the authenticity of the evidence, which was critical to the case.
I stay current with changes in laws and regulations related to evidence custodianship by regularly attending training and continuing education courses, as well as keeping up with industry publications and newsletters. I also actively seek out new information and resources that can help me to improve my knowledge and skills as an evidence custodian.
