This is a student position responsible for assisting in the laboratory and promoting a positive learning environment for students. Works under general supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
QUALIFICATIONS The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. Must have taken and passed the Chemistry class they are applying for with a C or higher.
Training and instruction will be provided.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in maintaining safety and cleanliness in the lab.
Enforces department safety rules.
Provides technical instruction on basic laboratory equipment.
Answers general questions related to the lab.
Assists in organizing students.
Assists in properly ending/cleaning the lab.
Meets with faculty member in charge of the lab as necessary.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Chemistry 1111 : Wednesday: 2:00 PM to 4:50 PM Thursday: 2:00 PM to 4:50 PM
Chemistry 1112: Friday 2:00 PM to 4:50 PM
Chemistry 1105: Monday 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM Tuesday 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
Chemistry 3131: Tuesday 1:00PM to 4:50 PM Wednesday 1:00 PM to 4:50 PM Thursday 1:00 PM to 4:50 PM
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
