JOB TITLE: Cedarcrest High School Principal
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY: Provides administrative supervision of facility, staff and programs at Cedarcrest High School. Works with staff to provide high quality instructional, extra-curricular and support services for students; provides administrative services and monitors the educational program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff
Provide for school safety: physical, emotional and intellectual in order for effective teaching and learning to take place
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a data-driven plan for increasing student achievement, including the use of multiple student data elements
Assist instructional staff with alignment of curriculum instruction, and assessment with state and local district learning goals
Monitor, assist, and evaluate effective instruction and assessment practices within a consistent student progress monitoring system
Manage both staff and fiscal resources to support student achievement and legal responsibilities
Manage the building and ASB budgets in accordance with district guidelines and in order to maximize opportunities for all children
Partner with families and communities to promote learning
Foster understanding and support of the school by establishing school and community relations and involve parents and the public meaningfully in the work of the school
Demonstrate commitment to closing the achievement gap
Establish clear standards for student behavior and manage student correction in a respectful and caring manner, in compliance with district policy and state law
Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and other district leaders to assure system-wide improvement
Establish school policies and procedures which guide the operation of the school in alignment with laws and district policy
Maintain consistent presence at the school and professionally interact with students, staff, parents and the community
Comply with all district policies and the Code of Professional Conduct
Responsible for the collaborative design and implementation of School Improvement Plans as aligned with the district Strategic Plan
Continue professional growth, formulate goals, seek feedback, apply new skills, and participate as a team member with colleagues
Maintain regular attendance (in person)
Participate in special projects or other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge and experience in management of building based budget
Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices
Knowledge of and skills in implementing various formative and summative assessments
Knowledge of and experience with an instructional framework, specifically the Danielson Instructional Framework
Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior
Skills in data analysis to assess, monitor, and inform instruction for student growth
Skills and ability in organization, time management, and record keeping
Successful skills in leading discussion, experience as a strong facilitator and skilled at group process
Possess a vision for a secondary school and leadership ability to move staff, students, and parents toward that vision
Ability to “get along” with co-workers and others in a positive manner
Ability to handle stress and respond to stress appropriately
Ability to remain calm, flexible, and work effectively under pressure
Ability to maintain and model a consistently positive attitude
Ability to chase student during elopement from the classroom
Ability to assist with student evacuation in case of emergency
Ability to recognize signals of impending student violence in the classroom
Ability to deescalate students
Ability to safeguard the safety and health of students
Ability to effectively utilize collaborative decision-making in a team environment
Ability to help teachers and staff maximize their performance
Ability to solve problems creatively and decisively
Ability to meaningfully involve parents, other community members, staff and student in the operation of the school

Background of training and practice in Common Core curriculum development, assessment and instructional strategies
Successful classroom and administrative experience desired

Works cooperatively with other administrators
LICENSING/CREDENTIAL AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Washington State Principal’s credential
Master’s degree in educational leadership/administration or related field
Successful training/teaching experience with secondary level students preferred
Bilingual fluency in reading, writing, and speaking another major language, Spanish preferred
Successful Washington State Patrol check and FBI Fingerprint Clearance Report and Disclosure Statement in accordance with state law
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Ability to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal. Additional physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision. Frequently required to attend evening/weekend meetings or activities.
