This is aOpen Competitiverecruitment to create an eligibility list for current and future vacancies. Successful candidates are expected to work eight (8) hours a day, five (5) days a week, and eleven (11) months per school year.

GENERAL PURPOSEUnder general supervision of the Career Technical Education Coordinator, performs career-technical education, career planning, and job placement in the operation of a student career-technical education program career center; and performs related duties as assigned.DISTINGUSHING CHARACTERISTICSA Career-Technical Education Specialist performs non-supervisory career-technical education program support and administrative duties within a career-technical education center.

1. Prepares and disseminates information regarding career-technical education program classes and requirements by means of flyers, bulletins for display or circulation, presentations or direct contact with students.
2. Performs clerical duties that may include a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the administrative functions of the CTE program
3. Assists participants with work permit process to ensures that participants meet district guidelines and requirements.
4. Assists in program registration, verification of student data, evaluation of participant program qualification, and performance and attendance monitoring.
5. Coordinates career-technical education program classes, communicating with program teachers to convey registration and enrollment information, scheduling, room assignments, and in-service meetings.
6. Assists with promotional campaigns and career fairs; recruits student and employer program participants; publicizes program goals and achievements; promotes public support for program.
7. Prepares and assists in maintaining program records, including attendance, work permits, teacher forms and time cards.
8. Performs program logistical activities, including student field trips and transportation coordination.
9. Maintain and organize inventory of CTE supplies, materials and equipment.
10. Support all high school career centers.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

1. Applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, and District guidelines and procedures such as disability legislation, child labor laws, job and after-hours school program safety.
2. District procedures, deadlines and requirements pertaining to career technical education programs.
3. Career-technical education methods, techniques and procedural requirements.
4. Job preparation methods, resume and cover letter preparation, and effective interviewing techniques.
5. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment operation.
6. Information technology and computer capabilities applicable to functional responsibilities.

Ability to:
1. Apply federal, state, and District regulations, standards and requirements applicable career technical education programs.
2. Work independently with minimum direction.
3. Conduct student interviews and evaluate skills and interests.
4. Possess excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and industry partners.
5. Interact effectively, engage in problem-solving processes and the establishment of partnering with District staff, community groups, students and employers.
6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse workforce and community.Education, Training, and Experience:
  • High school, G.E.D. equivalent, or higher education; and
  • At least one year of progressively responsible administrative support in career technical education; or some combination of education, training and experience that produces the requisite knowledge and ability.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
  • A valid California driver's license.
  • Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle which meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and must maintain insurability.
