Position Start Date: August 1, 2026

Required Degree: An MS/MA/MEd in family and consumer sciences, career and technical education, family studies, human development, developmental psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a related discipline is required. PhD/EdD preferred.

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience: Those with established academic or professional careers are encouraged to apply, as well as outstanding new MSs, PhDs or ABDs who will complete their degrees by the start date. Evidence of achievement in the field as well as excellent teaching ability is required.

Duties/Expectations: The School of Family Life is seeking a talented teacher to fill a professional continuing faculty status position within the Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCSE) Program. Rank commensurate with experience. This position is central to the preparation of future educators through rigorous instruction, mentorship, and supervision in core education courses, as well as other content-related and education pedagogy courses as needed.

The selected candidate will support the mission of BYU and the School of Family Life by fostering learning that is spiritually strengthening, intellectually enlarging, and character building while preparing students for lifelong learning and service. The faculty member will be expected to seek professional development, attend conferences, and regularly engage with professional and local networks to strengthen relationships and improve clinical placements, mentor training, and career readiness for students. Citizenship expectations include contributing to the academic community, serving on committees, participating in curriculum development and accreditation initiatives, and attending faculty meetings, college events, and university devotionals and forums.

This position is expected to be filled by a faculty on the CFS-track, but it may be filled with a visitor.

Description of the School of Family Life: (https://familylife.byu.edu) The School of Family Life (SFL), in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences, is one of the largest and most dynamic programs of its kind. SFL offers two undergraduate majors: Family Life, with emphases in Human Development and Family Studies, and Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The school has more than 40 full-time faculty members and over 1,500 undergraduate majors and minors. SFL also offers an MS degree in Marriage, Family, and Human Development, and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy. There are approximately 60 students in the MS or Ph.D. programs in SFL. Brigham Young University is one of the largest private universities in the U.S. and is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The university has approximately 33,000 students and 1,300 faculty. It is located at the foot of the Wasatch Mountain range in Provo, Utah, a community of approximately 100,000. The grounding document of the School of Family Life is "The Family: A Proclamation to the World." Faculty are expected to support the principles and practices of this document.
