Dean of Trades

The Dean of Trades acts as the academic lead for specific programs across campuses and modalities with shared accountability for curriculum development, faculty readiness to deliver the curriculum, development and implementation of initiatives, continuous program review, planning, and general effectiveness and operation of the HVAC and Electrical programs.


The Dean provides support for all phases of application, implementation, and management of the programs Other key job accountabilities include participation in assessment at the program and course levels; convening program faculty; research and integration of best industry practices; and leading efforts to prepare discipline faculty to effectively deliver curriculum. Responsibilities include regularly convening program faculty for sharing practices and training; and supporting the program chairs in upholding academic and accreditation standards and policies.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides academic leadership for the HVAC and Electrical programs in areas of curriculum, faculty, and pursuit of continuous improvement, including new course development, curriculum assessment and course redevelopment

  • Leads faculty, program chairs, employers and industry experts in the development of new courses and curriculum redesign, including selection of instructional resources and development of assessments

  • Partners with program chairs to establishes laboratory and software standards to teach program competencies; assists with preparation of new laboratories and review of relevant software; and monitors campus adherence to standards

  • Partners with Academic deans to establish appropriate faculty credentials as required by accreditor and industry standards and for effective teaching of program competencies

  • Partners with Academic Deans to assure trades faculty are prepared to effectively deliver the approved curriculum for their programs

  • Mentors program chairs and faculty on academic technology and effective teaching pedagogy

  • Partners with Academic Deans to manages Program Review process and provides analysis to key stakeholders

  • Partners with Academic Deans to engages faculty and program chairs in assessment of student outcomes and performance as well as development of improvement initiatives

  • Assures student, faculty, program chair, and employer feedback relative to course quality is incorporated into course improvement planning

  • Assists campuses with new program rollout from proposal preparation to enrollment of students

  • Keeps current on national and state regulations and on changes in the industry that impact the program

  • Assists with preparation of program accreditation documents.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

  • Complies with all Zenith Policies



Qualifications:

  • HVAC faculty must also have EPA 608 Refrigerant Certifications type I and II, preferably universal, and EPA Refrigerant Certification R-410A.

  • Minimum of Five (5) years’ experience teaching in related area, 2 of which from a post-secondary institution

  • Minimum two years of supervisory or academic leadership experience

  • Minimum two years professional/practitioner experience

  • Associate’s Degree or Apprenticeship License required (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)

  • Experience delivering instruction in a learning management system required

  • Experience using academic technology (simulations, adaptive learning tools, integration of micro learning elements into presentations, etc.) highly preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Competency in MS Office (Excel Power Point, Word, and Outlook)
